Dog Bed and Allergies: Tips for Households with Allergy Sufferers
In short: A dog bed cannot prevent allergies, but it can make them easier to manage. Choose a bed that is fully machine washable or has removable covers, a smooth fabric like corduroy from which hair can be easily removed, and vacuum the bed regularly. If you have any concerns, please speak with a doctor.
Washability is key
The more often a bed can be washed, the less hair and dust will accumulate. Soft Stripe, Dream, Meallow and Candy are fully washable at 30 degrees. For Lucky, remove the covers and wash them. Instructions: Washing a dog bed.
Smooth fabrics instead of hair traps
Dog hair can be easily removed from corduroy with a vacuum cleaner or lint roller, and the corduroy on Soft Stripe and Lucky does not absorb odors. Long-pile faux fur is cozier, but it holds onto hair more. More about the fabrics: Corduroy, plush or faux fur.
Tested fabrics
The corduroy fabrics of Soft Stripe, Dream and Meallow, as well as the outer fabric of Shaggy, have been tested for harmful substances according to STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX, certificate no. SH015 236952. The filling of Shaggy is hypoallergenic.
A routine that helps
- Vacuum the bed twice a week.
- Wash every two to four weeks.
- Air out regularly, preferably outdoors on dry days.
- Do not place the bed in the bedroom of the allergic person.
