Round or square dog bed: What suits your dog?
In short: Watch how your dog sleeps. If they curl up tightly, a round bed with an elastic rim is ideal. If they like to lie stretched out on their side or back, they need a rectangular bed with a long sleeping surface. For large dogs, a rectangular bed is almost always the better choice.
The sleeping position makes the difference
Curled up
Many small and medium-sized dogs sleep tightly curled up, nose to tail. In this position, they retain heat and feel protected. A round bed with an all-around rim supports the back from all sides.
Stretched out on their side
Dogs that stretch out need length. In a round bed, their paws or head can quickly hang over the edge. A rectangular bed makes better use of the space.
On their back or leaning halfway over the edge
These dogs love high rims to lean against and use as a pillow. Rectangular beds with a firm rim like Soft Stripe or Candy are a good fit here.
Benefits of round dog beds
- The all-around rim provides support from all sides.
- Cozy for dogs that like to burrow and curl up.

- The dog can stretch out completely.

Frequently asked questions
Is a round dog bed suitable for large dogs?
For medium-sized dogs up to about Labrador size, yes, if they like to curl up. Very large dogs and dogs that sleep stretched out will lie more comfortably in a rectangular bed in XXL or 3XL.
My dog sleeps in different positions. What now?
Then a rectangular bed with a high rim is the best compromise: your dog can stretch out and still lean against it.
